What are you going to wear?

Twas the night before theVOV launch, when all through the museums, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.

We took one last look at the past, took one look at our covid mask covered faces, and leapt into the phygital future together, hand in digital hand.

I’m laying out my outfits to wear to the first three digital spaces that are opening tomorrow, and yes that is indeed ‘outfits’ plural. You’re talking to the girl who would save her eyelash curlers in a flood. And I can’t help but pinch myself.

We made it. We are finally here, theVOV doors are opening, and so much is ready to be seen inside. Ralph Rugoff, director of the Hayward Gallery is going to speak to us about Andreas Gursky, Pacita Abad’s nephew, Pio, is going to speak about his aunt with Dr. Dorothy Price, and we are ‘Cultivating Common Ground: Art and Botany from Tucson to Jerusalem’. And that is only the start.

I don’t want to give too much away, I want you to experience the joy of opening those doors yourselves, but I will tell you what I’ll be wearing when I digitally swan in.

To go and see Andreas Gursky at Hayward, I of course have to wear something minimalist to pay hommage to Gursky and my own German roots, and naturally form will have to follow function in this same vein. I’m tempted to wear all white, and specifically a crisp structured white shirt to emulate the gridlike formations that creep into Gursky’s works for me. Also, everyone looks good in white, that is just a fact, I don’t make the rules (although obviously, I should). I of course will have to accessorise with ridiculous highlighter green nikes, but that is more about me than the art.

Then, after a quick costume change, I will head to see Tony Cokes at Goldsmiths CCA, and I will need to wear something LOUD. The 60s music that accompanies his video works, and bright pop colours of course call for a dramatic look. I’m thinking pink (when am i not it seems). Because it was sunny for one day two weeks ago I am hankering to wear sandals, so you might catch me wearing a bright pink shirt, red sandals, red jeans, and a white vest. I will probably look like a walking cosmopolitan cocktail, but it is a special day.

After trotting around and having a good look at Cokes’ works (gallery openings are more than simply being seen after all),  I’ll don feathers and more feathers for the textile dream that is Pacita Abad’s show at Spike Island.

What will you wear to theVOV launch day?

with love, from Lottie @theVOV
